Rei means spirit, soul, divine, and sacred. Ki means life force energy. Reiki is a gentle yet powerful healing modality that can be traced back to ancient Tibet but was rediscovered in the mid-1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui.
The Reiki Practitioner channels the reiki to the client through hand positioning, like "laying on of the hands" or directly over the body. The Reiki then flows directly from the practitioner to the client and goes exactly where it's needed the most.
It works within the receiver's physical, mental, and emotional realms to bring about healing. It balances the whole person and works both on the physical and etheric bodies. These two bodies are interconnected. Balancing the chakras with reiki has a direct effect on the endocrine system. Each chakra is connected to a gland, organ, and body part.
Most receivers feel a sense of peace and calm as they receive the reiki. Many also feel sensations such as warmth and tingling from the practitioner's hand and in their body. Some people have beautiful visuals during their sessions. How one perceives the reiki will be very individual to their experience.
Anyone can receive Reiki. It doesn't interfere with medical procedures or have any contraindications. It has been known to speed up recovery from surgery and illness. Many people receive reiki for chronic pain management and through life transitions. It is a soothing treatment for end-of-life care. It helps relieve suffering on all levels while supporting one to take active responsibility towards their life. Because it's not connected to time or space, it can also be received from a distance.
